Founded in 1980 by Mac Smith, Airbourne Aviation has grown from its humble beginnings as ‘The Microlight Aviation Club’ into a renowned and well-respected aviation training facility, recognised for its excellence in microlight instruction, and the longest running flight school in England.

In 2022, the management of the school was taken over by Cliff Hawkins, who brought much needed new investment, ideas, and instructors to the organisation. Then in 2023, Cliff purchased the school, cementing its reputation as the most premier and trusted flight school in the country.

In September 2025, Airbourne began another exciting new chapter as its ownership transferred to British Young Pilots founder Patrick Tame.

Airbourne Aviation offers full in-house NPPL(A) microlight training, including all exams and skills tests.
